Popliteal Aneurysm Repair

Aneurysms of the popliteal artery situated just behind the knee are associated with abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in 25% of cases. These aneurysms can lead to blockages of the arteries in the leg which if left untreated may result in extreme cases with the need to perform leg amputation surgery.

Treatment occurs if the popliteal aneurysm is 2cm in diameter or larger. It can be treated either by the insertion of a stent or open bypass surgery. It is important to customised the treatment for each individual patient.
